Rupert Murdoch Moves to Counter Search Engine Dominance of News

The extent to which Google has replaced direct traffic to Web sites is evident in this interview with media mogul Rupert Murdoch, in which he condemns Google, Microsoft and other search players for “stealing” the content of his news sites.

In an enlightening interview, David Speers rightly points out that search engines are a two way street, allowing consumers to find Murdoch’s sites at no cost to him. Murdoch has some interesting things to say about the  advertising model that search engines make possible. He further raises the interviewer’s eyebrows when he suggests that he will block search engine indexation entirely and instead rely on an old-fashioned subscriber-based model.
